Dry Bags

Dry bags come in backpacks, duffel, sack, and other styles with great waterproof properties to prevent your gear from getting wet.

Dry bags are absolutely necessary additions to any camping or fishing trip.  Waterproof dry bags keep vital items completely safe from the harsh elements in which you’ll be traveling.  If you’re camping, there are certain things that you’ll need to take with you, from your wallet, or even passport if you’re camping abroad.  In that scenario you just can’t leave it to chance that your documents will stay dry.  To ensure the safety of all of your important items, you absolutely must have dry bags.

Dry bags come in a variety of different sizes and styles so there will definitely be something guaranteed to serve your needs.  Waterproof bags are usually manufactured using a polyurethane outer casing that is completely water resistant. Dry sacks also feature extremely tight waterproof stitching, so that even if the dry bag is fully submerged, it can still hold out and keep your items safe for a certain period of time.  Dry sacks are a great way to seal food products, electronics, or identification so that you don’t have to worry about the rain ruining your outing.  Some of the main things you’ll want to consider is the size of the waterproof dry bag you’ll need, and also the way that you’ll be carrying your dry bags.

You’ll need a wet dry bag that can stand up to the amount of equipment you’ll be carrying.  If you’re bringing cameras and camcorders along for the ride, you need a dry bag backpack that can keep up with you.  That means a lot of storage space, and multiple pockets on the inside so that you can ensure everything is kept safe while jostling around during your travels.  There are very large dry duffel bags that are duffel sized, and intended to be easily carried with you on your back or in your hands.  There are also small dry bags that you can place inside a larger camping backpack.  This ensures vital items are kept dry, no matter how wet your dry pack may get.

An alternative to dry bags, if you find they just don’t fit with the way you’ll be traveling, is to purchase a waterproof backpack.  These feature similar construction, but don’t protect against the water quite as well.  A waterproof backpack will fully seal itself so that there are no problems from rain, or temporarily being submerged in water.  But because waterproof backpacks feature more stitching and seams, over exposure to water will eventually lead to them failing to keep the water out.  However, this is an easy to carry alternative to dry bags, and will still keep your vital items safe in regular wet weather conditions.

When you’re looking to purchase any type of dry bag, you’ll want to go to a camping supplies dealer, or other form of outdoor activities store.  They will have the largest selection of dry gear bags from top waterproof manufacturers like SealLine and Seattle Sports, and Sealline dry bags come highly recommended by many.  Depending upon size, dry bags can cost as low as $15 or all the way up to $50.  Remember to choose a wet dry bag you’ll feel comfortable carrying, and also a type that seems perfectly sturdy for the activities in which you’ll be participating.
